projects :: rss reader

Project Description

RSS (RDF [Resource Description Framework] Site Summary, or Rich Site Summary, or Really Simple Syndication) is a lightweight XML format used for distributing news headlines and other content on the Web. If you read weblogs or news sites, chances are, you've seen a link for an RSS feed. Using an RSS reader, you can keep up to date with new stories as they are posted. This version is preloaded with the RSS feed for the derLAB weblog.

This RSS Reader is written in Flash. It is intended to fit into a web page (which accounts for its small footprint), though it could run as a standalone executable on your desktop as well. Click on the "Config" tab to add your own RSS feeds. If you add your own feeds, they will become part of the drop-down list of choices each time you use the Reader (in other words, it will remember you and your preferences). I'm working on a larger version which allows you to edit your feed list and test feeds before adding them to your list. I hope to release the fuller version soon.

Please note: If you are a Safari user, Safari appends a non-standard protocol prefix (e.g., "FEED://") to RSS URLs. Simply edit the feed URL to read "HTTP://" and the feed should work in the Reader.
